City of the Unexpected

A celebration of the magic of Roald Dahl

City of the Unexpected will be a phizz-whizzing celebration of the centenary of one of Cardiff’s most famous sons, writer Roald Dahl.

The gloriuptious weekend will involve a cast of thousands of performers from across the city and amazing spectacles - all staged across Cardiff’s streets, public spaces, shops and arcades, buildings and parks.

Wales has developed a name for world class site specific theatre, with companies such as National Theatre Wales and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru producing amazing performances such as {150} and Mametz.

The British Council will be bringing a group of international arts promoters and organisers to Cardiff to see City of the Unexpected and to showcase Wales’s expertise in site specific performance. The trip will give the group the chance to learn how Welsh arts organisations develop and manage such performances and to build contacts with Wales’ creative sector. The delegates will also be mentored through webinars and online meetings to develop their own events in their home countries.
